Agent confirms latest on Mothwa

AmaZulu have made clear intentions of keeping their best assets by triggering option on the contract of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.

President Sandile Zungu had confirmed on Ukhozi FM last month that Usuthu would be releasing up to 13 players, with SABC Sport having already confirmed forward Augustine Mulenga as one of the big casualties.

However, AmaZulu are also serious about maintaining the core of the team and Mothwa™s agent has revealed that the goalkeeper will remain on their books for another two years at least.

œTo be honest, we were made aware by president Sandile around April that they will be taking up the option, because Veli has been such an asset since joining from Chippa United - and his contribution is there for all to see, explained agent Basia Michaels.

Mothwa was a vital part of Usuthu™s memorable 2020/21 campaign, in which they finished runners-up to DStv Premiership winners Mamelodi Sundowns under then coach Benni McCarthy - the goalie managing 11 clean sheets from 26 matches.

It was around the same time that Mothwa earned a maiden Bafana call-up and has consistently been part of coach Hugo Broos™ squad.

œI can confirm that Veli Mothwa will be at AmaZulu for another two years and he is looking forward to helping the club build on that unforgettable season, said Michaels.

The player has recently been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates but the latest development means only a big offer can lure him away, now that Usuthu have made sure he remains on their books ahead of the 2022/23 season, which is set to kick-off in August.
