Baciro Cande parts ways with Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau have reportedly decided not to retain Baciro Cande as head coach.

The 56-year-old was appointed by the West Africans in 2016 and had led the side to four successive Africa Cup of Nations.

They failed to make it out of the group stage in any of the three previous tournaments and it was a similar story this time around for the team.

After starting their tournament in the Ivory Coast with a 2-0 loss to the hosts, Cande's side then went down 4-2 to Equatorial Guinea and 1-0 to Nigeria to end bottom of Group A.

Guinea-Bissau have now failed to win in 12 matches at AFCON going back to 2017.

Cande is not the only coach to lose his job following AFCON elimination.

Egypt fired Rui Vitoria, Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi was handed his marching orders, while Gambia's Tom Saintfiet, Ghana's Chris Hughton, Tunisia's Jalel Kadri and Ivory Coast boss Jean-Louis Gasset all parted ways from their teams.
