Now with Sekhukhune United, the Cape Town-born mentor is heading into the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, as an underdog, but ready to run the Buccaneers close.
Truter, however, prefers to get the job done in humility.
"It's a tough one because as much as everybody sees the coach, there's also some technical members, staff members that are behind me as well. As much as the coach wants to control everything, we have some experts in terms of sports science, medical field, and conditioning experts. So, I would be wrong to say I deserve all the credit," he said.
Truter was able to guarantee Babina Noko a spot in the Top 8 at the end of the DStv Premiership season, last week.
When he took over during the FIFA World Cup break in November, Sekhukhune were second from bottom.
"Coming in, of course, resets had to be done, solutions had to be found. The mentality part, the psychological factor and making the players believe and giving them the confidence also that we can challenge the top 8, we can play CAF. That's another aspect of the game," the coach explained.
Regardless of what happens at Loftus Stadium against Pirates on Saturday evening, Truter already has plans for next season.
He tells SABC Sport he will make a few changes.
"The consistency in our 20, the consistency in our 11 and our substitutions. I think that's there for everybody to see in terms of the quality of the overall squad with everybody included. I do think there are some players that don't fit the style of play, I wouldn't say they are bad players or not good players."
