The opening exchanges at Lucas Morioe Stadium were cagey at best as both teams looked to ease into the knockout clash, with Babino Noko nearly drawing first blood – Vusumuzi Mncube forced a save from Masandawana gloveman Ronwen Williams.
The hosts eventually had their first chance as Grant Kekana's header was saved by man of the match Renaldo Leaner, before Sekhukhune thought they had scored, only for Elis Rammala to be ruled offside.
The second stanza became the Leaner Show, with the 27-year-old continuing to be superlative in front of goal, producing a double save to deny Iqraam Rayners before thwarting Teboho Mokoena and pulling off a stunning one-hander to deflect a curling Lucas Ribeiro free-kick.
Sekhukhune's stubborn resistance was finally broken in the 119th minute of the match with a move down the right hand touchline before Thapelo Morena's close-range strike led to a goalmouth scramble, and Jayden Adams was on hand to poke the ball home from two metres out.
Leaner made his ninth save in the scramble in an incredible effort with the gloves, ultimately earning him the MVP accolade.
Sundowns will face Amakhosi in the final four, while Orlando Pirates will be up against Marumo Gallants on the weekend of 12-13 April, with fixture details still to be communicated.
