The Tshwane outfit have been struggling in the Betway Premiership and slipped down into the relegation dogfight – above Royal AM, who are only at the foot of the table due to their games being called off indefinitely.
It’s understood the club fear keeping Hunt in the job will not improve their results having only managed three wins in 10 matches from all competitions.
Hunt reunited with SuperSport in July 2022 and had an instant impact by pushing the club back into the top three and qualified them for the CAF Confederation Cup, but results this season have been difficult.
The league form suggests a slippery slope with only one victory in 10 fixtures, which has led to concerns from the board.
According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, the hierarchy took the decision earlier this afternoon following a board meeting – and there had already been speculation on Thursday that Hunt would sacked.
It’s expected that Andre Arendse will see out the remaining nine games to help SuperSport out of the danger zone.
Matsatsantsa will be back in action on 30 March to host Cape Town City, another team that also fired their coach – Muhsin ErtuÄral – this week and installed Roger de Sa to join Diogo Peral and Lebo Manyama.
Hunt has previously won three successive league titles with SuperSport from 2008 to 2010 before leaving to clinch the championship with Bidvest Wits in 2017.
SuperSport are set to announce Hunt’s exit on Friday.
