Cape Town City snap up Fortune Makaringe after Orlando Pirates release

Cape Town City have made their third signing ahead of the new season with the acquisition of former Orlando Pirates midfielder Fortune Makaringe on a three-year deal.

The 31-year-old joins the Citizens on a free transfer after his contract with the Buccaneers wasn't extended thus resulting in his release.

The talented midfielder had been with Pirates for four seasons, joining the club in July 2019. During his time with the Soweto giants, he secured three MTN8 and two Nedbank Cup titles, making 147 appearances and netting 10 goals whilst making nine assists.

Johannesburg-born Makaringe came through Moroka Swallows' youth system and now reunites with City head coach Eric Tinkler, who coached him at Maritzburg United - the club he was signed from by the Sea Robbers.

The playmaker, who has been capped thrice by Bafana Bafana, adds to City's other signings ahead of the new season following the incoming transfers of Haashim Domingo and Kayden Francis.

"Cape Town City is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Fortune Makaringe," read a statement on the Citizens' official X account.

"The South African international signs a 3 year deal, as Coach Eric continues to assemble his squad for the new season."
