Kobel joined BvB last season for 15 million euros from Stuttgart - a fee which now looks like an absolute bargain as the 25-year-old has established himself between the Dortmund sticks with a series of impressive performances.
And Weidenfeller, whose goalkeeping cemented him a place as a legend of the club in the side that won the league in 2012 and made it to a Champions League final at Wembley at the end of that season in 2013, has sung the praises of the current shot-stopper.
Kobel has shown leadership and a maturity beyond his tender age
"At such a young age, he has already matured into a leader on the pitch. For me, he's an outstanding goalkeeper who still has huge potential."
"Gregor is excellent on the line, very strong with his feet and confident with his control of the penalty area. He is a leader at BVB. On top of that, he's a talented youngster. Personally, I think Gregor is one of the most important transfers in the club's recent history in terms of the next few years."
