Dortmund's strategic move for Chelsea's Renaro Veiga

Borussia Dortmund have made a significant move in the January transfer window by submitting an official offer to Chelsea for the services of young defender Renato Veiga.

The 21-year-old, who joined Chelsea from FC Basel for 12 million pounds last summer, has only featured in seven Premier League matches for the Blues, primarily serving as a backup.

The offer from Dortmund focuses on an initial loan agreement, with the condition that they can secure Veiga permanently in the summer if his performance in the Bundesliga proves satisfactory.

Dortmund are prepared to cover Veiga's full salary, which stands at approximately 25,000 pounds per week, and are also willing to pay a loan fee.

Veiga has reportedly reached a "total agreement" on personal terms with Dortmund, who have promised him a more regular role at his preferred position of centre-back. Chelsea, on their part, are looking to fetch around 20 million pounds from any deal involving Veiga, aiming to turn a profit on their initial investment.

Amidst this transfer speculation, there have been talks of a potential swap or player-plus-cash deal involving Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi.

However, The Telegraph's Matt Law has clarified that Chelsea are not currently in negotiations for Adeyemi, either for this transfer window or the upcoming summer one. Chelsea might consider a loan move for Adeyemi if other deals fall through, but he is not a priority for manager Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea's transfer strategy also involves other significant moves. The club is actively discussing the potential re-signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, aiming to bolster their defence. With Guehi's contract at Palace expiring in June 2026, and his impressive performances, he's in a strong position for a move either this month or in the summer.

Additionally, Chelsea have recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Palace, with plans to potentially pair him with Guehi. Maresca is looking to revamp the backline, which includes allowing Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi to explore options elsewhere.

Brighton & Hove Albion have shown interest in Adarabioyo, while Disasi attracts attention from clubs in Italy and Germany.

Chelsea's forward line might also see changes, with the club placing a 65 million pounds price tag on Christopher Nkunku, amid talks with Bayern Munich about his potential transfer and discussions regarding Bayern's Mathys Tel moving to Stamford Bridge.

This flurry of transfer activity underlines Chelsea's intent to reshape their squad for the challenges ahead in both the Premier League and European competitions.
