Enzo Maresca: Defeat to Brighton is Chelsea's 'worst performance'

Chelsea's injury troubles deepened as Noni Madueke was ruled out for a spell on the sidelines, while Malo Gusto was also forced off in their 3-0 defeat to Brighton.

Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Gusto's injury is not as severe as Madueke's, but the setbacks add to Chelsea's growing concerns.

The loss to Brighton was their second in less than a week, following their FA Cup exit at the hands of the same opponents last weekend.

Chelsea's night went from bad to worse as Enzo Fernandez's goal, which could have given them a lifeline, was ruled out.

The defeat leaves the Blues in danger of dropping out of the Premier League's top four by the end of the weekend, putting increased pressure on Maresca's side.

Speaking after the match, the Chelsea boss acknowledged the disappointment but urged his team to remain focused.

"Malo is okay. Noni unfortunately has a hamstring problem so unfortunately will be out for a little while," said Maresca.

On the game itself, he added: "Probably since I arrived that is the worst performance, especially in the moment we are in.

"We are fourth in the league and winning tonight you can go one point from third and make the gap to the rest bigger.

"The performance is not one you want to offer, so we are very upset, and especially very sorry for the fans who were here, and in general to our fans, because in this moment you cannot offer this kind of performance with 14 games to go, now 13 games to go. In terms of desire, we need to show more."
