During a presentation to members of the South African Football Journalists Association, SMSA CEO Bertie Grobbelaar and his team showcased how this new camera system will be utilised.
After a few incidents at FNB Stadium over the past few seasons, Grobbelaar explained how this camera system will help.
"In our post-season debrief with the clubs, our service providers, and SASRIA, the JOC [Joint Operations Committee], and ESSPC stakeholders, we decided to enhance the camera system around the venue," said Grobbelaar.
"It's just the fact that man power can't be everywhere, and if you want to be everywhere, you need to deploy a lot of people.
"So, in conjunction with Servest, we decided to do an assessment and audit of where we need cameras in and around the venue to assist on event day, and also in the day-to-day security of the venue."
In explaining and demonstrating how this new camera system works to the members of SAFJA, Grobbelaar showed how they can zoom in on every seat inside the venue and track every individual to control any incidents inside the stadium.
"So I think the biggest enhancement is in the bowl [pitch and seating], where you now can zoom into any individual causing havoc, and you'll monitor it from the VOC [Venue Operations Centre], and the action units will then deal with those issues," he explained.
"Also at the turnstiles and access points, the PTZ cameras can zoom into those areas and assist the VOC commander and safety officer to redirect people to available gates, and get assistance when there are issues at these gates."
