Kaizer Chiefs return to winning ways after narrow victory against Magesi FC

Ashley Du Preez scored the only goal of the game to help Kaizer Chiefs return to winning ways after a 1-0 victory over Magesi FC in a Betway Premiership clash played at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Amakhosi came into the contest having lost their last two matches, against SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively, but were still expected to see off their opponents who are languishing second from bottom in the standings.

Magesi though have won three of their last five games under head coach Owen Da Gama and for more than an hour matched Chiefs in what was a tight contest.

Amakhosi head coach Nasreddine Nabi was clearly getting frustrated on the touchline and called for reinforcements from the substitutes bench.

Du Preez was one of those sent on by his coach and made an instant impact as the forward found the back of the net from close-range following a cross from Makabi Lilepo in the 69th minute.

The goal signaled wild celebrations from the players and in the stands as the relief was clear for all to see.

The win cements Amakhosi in eighth place on the log, six points above Chippa United who do have two games in hand while Magesi remain in the relegation play-off position, one point behind Richards Bay.
