Lindelani Ladies had three players suspended, fined 10-thousand rand and further ordered to pay the cost of the hearing.
Mgegeba says this has affected the team, who are currently in serious danger of relegation on position 15 in the Hollywoodbets Super League log standings.
The newcomers have collected a mere seven points from 23 games.
''As a team we didn't anticipate the outcome given that football is a game of rules and of course if you do break the rules there will be consequences. We did expect that given what transpired. This has affected the team, we have no sponsors and we had to pay a fine that we did budget for, so definitely it has affected the team,'' said Mgegeba.
The team is however relieved that the ordeal is over after waiting for months for judgement to fall, as Mgegeba explains.
''We are definitely relieved, the actual incident occurred in April. So throughout the whole season we have had something hanging over us not knowing what will happen, but now we are relieved,'' added Mgegeba.
The 2023 Sasol League National Play-offs runners up look destined to return to the lower division. They however won their last match in the league, their second victory of the season. Mgegeba says this has given them a boost as they fight to stay alive.
''Winning our second match was a confidence boost, given the fact that we won the match, right after the ruling of the hearing. This shows that we can thrive under pressure,'' she expressed.
Mgegeba says they are optimistic about their future in the elite women’s football league in South Africa.
Mgegeba concludes by saying they have learnt their lessons as newcomers to the Hollywoodbets Super League.
Lindelani Ladies face Richmond Ladies tomorrow (Sunday, 14 September 2024) hosting Richmond United. The banned players will serve their second suspension in that game and will return next weekend against City Lads Ladies.
