Mamelodi Sundowns continue winning streak with victory against Richards Bay

In a compelling Betway Premiership match at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium, Mamelodi Sundowns secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Richards Bay FC on Saturday afternoon.

This result extends Sundowns' perfect record against Richards Bay, having won all previous five encounters.

The match kicked off with both teams eager to make an impact, but it was Sundowns who broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Arthur Sales scored from the center of the box, assisted by Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

Despite Richards Bay enjoying 62% possession and making six attempts on goal, they couldn't capitalize, with notable misses from Yamela Mbuthuma and Moses Mthembu.

The half ended with a 1-0 lead for Sundowns, marked by three yellow cards, two for Richards Bay and one for Sundowns.

The second period saw Richards Bay pushing hard for an equalizer, with Mbuthuma almost scoring when his header hit the bar in the 52nd minute.

However, any hope of a comeback was dashed when Lucas Ribeiro Costa scored the second goal for Sundowns in the 66th minute, showcasing excellent teamwork with Aubrey Modiba.

Substitutions were made by both sides as the match wore on, with Richards Bay bringing in Thabiso Kutumela and Justice Figuareido, among others, in hopes of turning the tide.

A brief delay due to an injury to Yamela Mbuthuma added drama, but Sundowns maintained their composure and control.

The game ended without further scoring, leaving Mamelodi Sundowns to celebrate yet another victory on the road.

This win stretches their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership standings to six points after 11 games, while Richards Bay find themselves in 15th place with eight points from 12 matches.

This match was not just a testament to Sundowns' dominance but also highlighted Richards Bay's struggle to find the net despite their possession and numerous attempts.
