The Serie A giants have reportedly agreed to cover Walker's 300,000-pounds-a-week wages as part of the deal.
Walker, 34, has been a vital figure at Manchester City since joining the club eight years ago.
During his tenure, he secured an impressive 17 trophies, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, and a Champions League title.
The defender's departure follows his exclusion from City's 8-0 FA Cup third-round triumph over Salford.
Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Walker had communicated his intention to leave, a decision that was further discussed with the club's director of football, Txiki Begiristain.
Walker's contract with Manchester City is set to expire at the end of next season.
While it remains unclear whether the move will be finalised during the current transfer window, the club are open to offers.
This transfer represents a significant step for Walker as he transitions towards the latter stages of his illustrious career, with Inter providing an opportunity to embrace a new chapter in a different league.
