Buthelezi, who made his debut for Pirates only in October and kept clean sheets in his first two matches.
He also kept Pirates in the game in the early stages with two super saves on Saturday, during a one-nil win over his former team TS Galaxy.
Bucs coach Jose Riveiro talks about the healthy competition they have.
"A goalkeeper is one more player in the structure. He's a specialist and the speciality is what happens in the first minutes. The goalkeeping with Malusi is not a discussion, he's shown it already in the last season playing for Galaxy and again, he's working hard. He's competing with the number one goalkeeper of Ghana, with Sipho Chaine, with a player with experience in Mpontshane. So, you can imagine the level of the training and the competition," Riveiro said.
Buthelezi, who hails from Nquthu in KwaZulu-Natal, has now kept 35 clean sheets in 68 professional football matches, including his spells at Galaxy and Jomo Cosmos in the National First Division (NFD).
Competing against top and international goalkeepers in Ghanaian international Richard Ofori, and Sipho Chaine who held on to the number one jersey for some time before his injury in October, and veteran goalminder in Siyabonga Mpontshane, Buthelezi has done well for himself. Riveiro also gives credit to the whole goalkeeping department led by coach Tyron Damons.
"The goalkeeper department is doing a fantastic job, so, he's doing very well. We are happy with his performances so far but the other ones are pushing hard and that's what makes you not get relaxed for a minute.
“He's starting the games usually and very well, unfortunately, it's not a good thing that early in the game we have conceded chances. It's not the first time, it's not the second, it's not the third. So, hopefully in the next ones we don't have to talk about Melusi or whoever is in the goal."
