Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has opened up about remaining at the club following the arrival of a new head coach Jose Riveiro.
Ncikazi, speaking at a media event organized by Pirates in Johannesburg yesterday, says for him it was not only about staying at the club because he did have other offers elsewhere.
After serving as a co-coach last season, together with Fadlu Davids, Ncikazi shared how the new position was introduced to him.
"When the developments took place, the club took me on board and I was aware [of what was happening]. I had options, I did not stay at the club because there were no options outside but I made a choice to stay at the club," said Ncikazi.
"By nature, I'm an optimist and not a pessimist - I look at the positive side of things, and this is not about me but about the club. If you look at football in the view that it's about you, you'll have challenges.
"If the club sees a need to grow to another level, we put the badge first and it's the decision of the club to move and get to that level. I'm not a person who puts myself first, I put everything else [first]- especially the club.
"Honestly, I think it would be unfair for me to try and change such situations, it happens everywhere and I accept what is there. Adversity is breakfast for champions because learnings happen in such moments.
"There's so much to learn and put my contribution where I can, and as long as the club does well, that's why I'm here."
