Nedbank Cup: Sekhukhune United sink Cape Town City to progress into next round

Sekhukhune United progressed into the next round of the Nedbank Cup after a 2-0 victory over Cape Town City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium om Monday.

Both goals came in the second half with Katlego Otladisa and Relebogile Mokhuoane finding the back of the net for the home side.

Both teams started cautiously in the cup tie with passes being sprayed all over the pitch but not a single shot on target in the first half.

Thabo Nodada came closest to opening the scoring for City in the 39th minute but the midfielder put his effort narrowly wide from inside the penalty area.

The game sprang into life after the halftime interval with the hosts taking control of proceedings and deservedly taking the lead just before the hour mark.

Otladisa finding space outside the box and before then producing good curling effort that beat goalkeeper Darren Keet.

The Citizens failed to respond and Sekhukhune hammered home their advantage with 20 minutes remaining when Mokhuoane's header made it 2-0 from a Sipho Mbule corner-kick.

The home team then safely held onto their lead until the full-time whistle and move into the last 16 of the competition.
