Nigeria striker Desire Oparanozie apologises for penalty miss

Nigeria striker Desire Oparanozie has apologised to the country's supporters after missing her penalty in the Woman's World Cup last 16 defeat to England.

The two sides drew 0-0 at Suncorp Stadium on Monday before the Three Lionesses progressed with a 4-2 shootout win, with both Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie unable to convert from the spot.

Oparanozie posted her apology on Instagram alongside a picture of herself being consoled by goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

She wrote: "Sad day! Very disappointing to have lost through penalties, and even more disappointing not to have converted mine.

"And for this, I deeply apologize."
