Towards the end of the previous Bundesliga season, the centre-back faced criticism for his fitness levels.
However, after serious discussions with the club's management, Sule returned from his holiday in significantly better shape, reportedly shedding 8-10 kilograms.
Dortmund's chairman, Hans-Joachim Watzke, was particularly impressed by Sule's dedication. Speaking to BILD, Watzke said, "I thought: My God, we have a new player.
"It's admirable how he's done it. I prefer it a thousand times more when someone admits a mistake and takes the appropriate steps, that's cool."
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl echoed Watzke's sentiments in an interview with Funke Mediengruppe. "We talked to him. Niklas showed that he understood and wanted to take on the challenge," Kehl said.
"He worked hard during his holidays and that was what was expected of him. It's a clear signal from Niklas that he wants to improve, that he wants to play consistently. That's a good statement.
"A Niklas Sule in top form helps every top team."
Sule's commitment and effort during the break were evident, and his improved fitness is seen as a significant boost for Dortmund.
His transformation will send a strong message about his dedication to the team and his desire to perform at his best.
Dortmund fans and experts alike will be eager to see how this renewed determination impacts his performance on the pitch in the upcoming season.
