Papi Zothwane: Richards Bay doing everything to avoid play-offs

Richards Bay FC co-coach Papi Zothwane believes they are peaking at the right time to avoid being dragged into the relegation scrap.

The Natal Rich Boys got another big result in the Betway Premiership when they came from behind to defeat Sekhukhune United 2-1 at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

The result pulled them away from the dogfight, with 13 points now separating them from Royal AM, who are bottom of the table albeit nine games behind amid their suspension, and Zothwane wants the team to build from the midweek result.

"One thing with our team, we know the experience of playing in the play-offs – it's not a nice thing, I don't think any team wants to be part of those play-offs," said Zothwane.

"With the team we have, we don't have stars in the team, we have hard workers, and I think the effort, not only from the players, but everyone in the setup, we are working extremely hard to make sure we don't go to the play-offs.

"Everyone that watches Richards Bay now can see the efforts that have been put in by all the players that we don't want to go there––and it's not easy, we have not left the relegation zone, we still have 10 games to play.

"But we are pushing extremely hard that, at least, when we get to the last five games, we can breathe and say, 'We can't go to the play-offs,' but it's going to be a mountain to climb to do that, and for us it's go to Magesi and stretch the gap a little bit to give us a breather."
