Patrick Mabedi confirms PSL offers, but prefers Malawi

Malawi interim head coach Patrick Mabedi has confirmed offers from PSL clubs but has suggested he prefers international football at the moment.

The Flames will wrap up their COSAFA Cup campaign in Durban by facing Bafana Bafana in a third place play-off this afternoon.

Mabedi, who is contemplating a return to the SA local league, told journalists his future is yet to be decided.

"On that one we need to put it in the left side pocket because we don't know what brings tomorrow. There's a couple of PSL teams that have come to me, they wanted my service. It's difficult to say now," Mabedi said.

The former Kaizer Chiefs defender and captain has previously coached Amakhosi, Moroka Swallows, Black Aces and Black Leopards in the PSL.

He says the life of a football mentor is unpredictable.

"In football, things can happen in a short period of time, so I won't be able to respond immediately but we'll see when the time goes. I don't know what the FA is thinking and I don't know what other teams are thinking. So, we just need to wait and see," Mabedi added.

The Flames are set for a busy remainder of the calendar year following the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification draw.

Malawi are in the same group as Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, Namibia, Liberia and Sao Tome and Principe, which seems more appealing to Mabedi.

"I'd love to help these kids reach their goal and I think it's also important for me to get more exposure or more international because local domestics, I've been there, so I know what it is. I think it's serious business to help a national team, I will be privileged and it's good than to help a club."
