This is according to the PSL General Manager for football Andile “Ace” Ncobo as they intensified their safety and security plans together with their partners and hosts, the Gauteng government.
A few months ago, there was an incident where several cars were broken into outside this match venue during a Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune league game. Ncobo says the security detail will be tight this time around.
"We are in partnership with the Gauteng government, we are pulling out all stops in terms of safety and security of the spectators. So, those people who have been striping motor vehicle components in Pretoria, they don't have a chance," he said.
"We have literally thousands of security officers that will be on patrol in and around the stadium, wherever vehicles will be packed even on the streets. Anybody who tries that will land in jail and will actually be convicted."
During these types of matches, especially those that are sold out in football, traffic control around the stadium is usually poor. The Gauteng government has introduced a free Gautrain service where ticket holders can catch a train from Park, Marlboro, Midrand, and Centurion stations. Ncobo says this is going to be of huge assistance.
"The value of the partnership with the Gauteng government is that when you bring in the Gautrain services, first of all you reduce the number of vehicles going towards the venue," he explained.
"So, that frustrating congestion where you spend time and you start panicking the match is a few minutes to kick off and you are stuck in traffic, you haven't even found your packing. There is an immediate positive impact when you have Gautrain services on board."
