Masandawana notched up their 21st victory of the season and have now accumulated 69 points, two behind the record of 71, with three games of the campaign still remaining.
The champions started the contest confidently and Aubrey Modiba drew a fine save out of home goalkeeper Hugo Nyame from a long-range effort.
Sundowns were getting closer to the opener when Neo Maema struck the upright with Nyame flat-footed from a shot on the edge of the box.
Just as it looked as though the hosts would survive until the halftime break, Peter Shalulile opened the scoring, acrobatically pouncing on a rebound after Nyame could only parry a header from Lesiba Nku.
The dominance of Sundowns continued after the interval with Shalulile hitting the post from a deflected shot while Thapelo Morena also spurned a good opportunity.
The visitors eventually doubled their lead with 20 minutes remaining Nku was rewarded for his industry all game with a fine strike.
Sundowns should have won by a bigger margin but Marcelo Allende blasted a penalty high and wide in injury-time just but it mattered little.
