The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving The Glamour Boys at the end of his contract last month, and there could be a huge possibility of Hlanti reuniting with coach Gavin Hunt.
Hunt worked with the Bafana Bafana international at Bidvest Wits, and Hlanti was an important player in their historic 2016/17 DStv Premiership title-winning team.
Chiefs’ decision to allow the experienced defender, who can also play as a left-sided centre-back, came as a surprise, considering Hlanti missed just nine of their 30 league matches last season.
But the player is understood to have put all that behind him now as his agent Sizwe Ntshangase approaches potential suitors and awaits offers.
What could be in his clients’ favour is the ability to take up several roles in defence, as he showed during Stuart Baxter’s tenure as the Bafana coach between 2017 and 2019.
Matsatsantsa appear to be thin in their backline following the departure of centre-back Ronald Pfumbidzai and uncertainty around long-serving player and club captain Onismor Bhasera.
Hlanti reported for training on Thursday morning and the door is open for SuperSport to take him on board as a free agent, though word at present is that he is only keeping fit until potential suitors are sought out.
Meanwhile, the possible arrival of Keagan Dolly to Hunt's squad has also stalled, with the two parties yet to agree terms, despite the former Mamelodi Sundowns winger having completed his medical at the club last week.
SuperSport are instead switching their focus to former Orlando Pirates winger Vincent Pule, who also plays on the left side of the attack and has previously played under their four-time league winning coach at Wits.
