Swallows to register two attackers after overturning Fifa ban

The world football governing body slapped the Dube Birds with a sanction that blocked them from any transfers for two years over failure to settle a long-standing debt between themselves and ex-players Vladimir Mandic and Obren Cuckovic. 

Following this game-changer, Swallows have already moved quickly to register forward Evans Rusike, who made his debut for the side in the DStv Premiership goalless draw against SuperSport United on Saturday. 

Mogashoa revealed they will soon be able to add winger David Ulomi and striker Tawanda Macheke to the squad to strengthen the attack. 

“We’ve got Evans that stayed with us from when the season started. We’ve got David Ulomi that is also going to be registered, and there’s a striker that the coach also wanted – a former Maritzburg United striker, Tawanda Macheke. He’s also going to be registered and I believe they will assist the club,” the Swallows boss explained. 

Asked how he overturned the complex Fifa ban, Mogashoa added he worked on a settlement deal with the duo that had accused the club of owing them money.  

The current Swallows hierarchy was being punished for the sins of the old regime under then-owner Leon Prins, who subsequently relinquished everything when the Dube Birds got relegated from topflight in 2015. 

“It’s something that I had to work on, otherwise this club was going to get relegated. I worked on it for six months,” said Mogashoa. 

“This was a 2015/16 season matter that does not involve us, it involves Moroka Swallows and we had to be very cautious as to how we dealt with the issue. They wanted a lot of money from the club, but when I looked at the legal fees, we considered taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, I realised it was half the amount they wanted. I sat down with them, made an offer and they accepted the offer.”
