Abafana Bes’thende managed a crucial 1-0 win over Swallows before the FIFA break to move up the DStv Premiership table – eight points above the automatic relegation zone with seven matches to go.
Vilakazi says he never threw in the towel.
"I was misquoted there; I didn't put it that way. I said whenever we feel with coach Mabhudi (Khenyeza) that the going is very tough, we will be the ones to raise our hands to the management and say rescue the situation because we are thinking of the betterment of the club. I never said the management said anything to us, they never said anything to us but I was just being honest," he said.
The coaching duo of Vilakazi and Mabhuti Khenyeza were handed the reins at the start of the 2022/23 season and are still growing into the role.
Vilakazi adds that their future is in the hands of the Arrows hierarchy.
"I'm still maintaining that, if things are not going well you can't keep on working on something that is not working. If you love the team and want better for the team you will think like that. Saying that does not mean I will resign from the club, I might say that and still work in the setup of the club, who knows," he added.
Although Arrows look to have moved away from the danger zone, Vilakazi isn’t getting ahead of himself with tricky fixtures still to follow.
"It's very difficult to comment on some things because when you look at the log now, you win one or two games you find yourself on top. If you lose one or two, you find yourself at the bottom. I think this is a very difficult season and a different one because when you look at the teams now, you can never say who's going to be relegated. I think we just need to focus on each game as it comes," he concluded.
