When asked for an update since the Court of Arbitration for Sport [CAS] ruled in favour of the player last month in a breach of contract case, attorney Davor Lazic revealed payment was yet to be made.

Royal AM failed to have the transfer ban handed to them by FIFA for terminating the contract between the two parties prematurely more than a year ago overturned – resulting in Nurkovic dragging them to Zurich for leaving him unemployed.

Although the Premier Soccer League [PSL] outfit went out of their way through their own lawyer in Leruma Thobejane to get the world governing body to withdraw their ruling, the conclusion from CAS was that they were in the wrong.

Lazic has now promised to return to FIFA to report the failure to uphold the judgment, which could mean either a points deduction, relegation to the lower division – or worst-case scenario – both.

“So far, there have been no significant updates. We exchanged a few emails, but nothing noteworthy has occurred,” he explained to SABC Sport.

“They have not made any payments to date, and we remain firm in our position: only full payment with interest will be accepted. If they fail to comply by the mid of next week, we will escalate the matter to FIFA, ensuring that this time it involves not only Royal AM, but also SAFA and PSL.”

Recently, league chairman Irvin Khoza said the PSL could not risk concluding the 2024/25 campaign with a team short.

“It will be bad for business,” he explained.

It now remains to be seen what steps Royal AM take in the coming days.
