Cricket South Africa launch SA20

Cricket South Africa on Wednesday launched the rebranded flagship Twenty20 League called SA20 which is set to start in 2023.

CSA have gone back to the drawing board and launched the new T20 domestic league to rival the likes of the Indian Premier League, Australia's Big Bash League, and the Caribbean Premier League.

The new-look SA20 will feature six teams and is an annual event kicking off in January 2023, just over two months after the upcoming 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup set for Australia from 16 October to 13 November.

League commissioner and former Proteas captain Graeme Smith has explained the idea behind the rebranded league, which he hopes can be inclusive for all cricket lovers.

œToday is another significant day as we officially unveil the SA20. We selected a name for its simplicity and something that can be uniquely ours, as we enter this new and exciting phase of cricket in South Africa," said Smith.

"Dropping the T in T20 cricket shows our intention to be different. We want to change the game for our players and for our fans, and most importantly, create a League that all South Africans can be a part of.

œThe countdown to January 2023 gets more thrilling with each major milestone that we cross and today is another step towards that first ball being bowled. We hope fans will be able to relate to our brand as we work towards making the SA20 a world-class tournament South Africans can be proud of.

Next up is the player auction, which is set for September 19, and will feature players from all around the world who registered before Sunday's deadline.
