Heinrich Klaasen primed to return to Proteas line-up for England clash

Heinrich Klaasen is set to return to the Proteas line-up for their ICC Champions Trophy clash against England in Karachi on Saturday after recovering from an elbow injury.

Klaasen sat out South Africa's tournament opening victory against Afghanistan and was due to have a last-minute fitness test before their clash against Australia was completely abandoned due to rain.

Proteas head coach Rob Walter described the middle-order batter as a "super player" but insists the 33-year-old can be at his destructive best if the top-order lays a proper foundation.

"I think that you probably notice his strength also based on who the guys are around him that allow him to play that way," Walter said.

"Obviously he's got a skillset at the moment that is right up there with the world's best, I think we all agree with that. And it's great to have him in your team because you know how destructive he can be.

"But all that said is that I know that the way he plays and the destructive nature of his game is also based on the confidence of the people around him and the way that they play.

"The whole piece of the puzzle is important in allowing him and freeing him up to play the best version of his game and be his best version.

"So, look it's exciting for everyone when he does play that way and certainly hoping for a number of those knocks in the next 10 days or so."

England have already been eliminated from the tournament after back-to-back defeats against Australia and Afghanistan but Walter will not be underestimating the 2019 World Cup winners.

The Proteas know a victory on Saturday will guarantee a last four berth while even a narrow defeat could be enough.

Walter added: "I suppose if you look at the quality of the players, I think that the English players, they're quality players, they do well. League cricket around the world, they do well, which should suggest that they're adaptable.

"If you look at the names on the sheet, I think there's some quality players there. I think there's good cricketers that, to be honest, could turn out tomorrow and deliver an international standard performance against us."
