Liam Dawson welcomes first SA20 win

Sunrisers Eastern Cape all-rounder Liam Dawson welcomes the team's return to winning ways in SA20.

The defending champions secured their first win in four matches, with a 58-run bonus point victory over Durban Super Giants on Friday night at Kingsmead.

Speaking at a post match presser, Dawson admits that it’s an important win away from home.

"Very important win, we know how good they are especially at home and they got two quality spinners in Noor Ahmad and Maharaj [Keshav] as well. So, we knew it was gonna be tough coming in and getting the win,” Dawson said.

“I think if we are honest as our group, we haven't played to our potential at all in this tournament. So, this is a massive game for us and yeah, we are obviously very happy to get the win."

The Sunrisers posted 165/5 batting first, with Tom Abell securing top score of 57 off 39 balls.

Dawson says the batter knows how to read the game and praised him for his role towards the crucial win.

"Yeah, he played brilliantly, I thought he really read the situation really well and also gave himself a chance earlier on and I'm really happy for him. He will be over the moon to contribute to a really important win so he played brilliantly and yeah, very happy," he added.

The two sides will go head-to-head again in a rematch at St George’s Park on Sunday. Dawson admits that the standard has been low in the opening three matches and adds that they will not be complacent going into match five.

"Love this to be sort of a catalyst for us to put in some more winning performances and more points on the board. We know we've probably been a little bit below, our standard so far in the first three or four games but yeah, we've gotta come back Sunday, try and produce another good performance against a very, very good side.

“We know how strong they are, every team is strong in this competition so yeah. I don't think we take this for granted at all, we've got a hell of a lot to improve on as a group. We'll try and go again on Sunday, improve and play better cricket."
