This timing is due to the fact that the Proteas will not be playing any home Tests during the 2025-26 season.
CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki explained to the Sunday Times that moving the SA20 forward to fill the gap in the calendar "makes the most sense."
He added, "We are still in talks for a series, but there won't be any Test matches, certainly not on Boxing Day or New Year's Day."
"We're planning to host some international white-ball cricket at home next season, but organizing a Test match at this late stage becomes logistically difficult."
Moseki also mentioned that shifting the SA20 would benefit the Proteas, especially with the T20 World Cup scheduled for February 2026.
"It's a great opportunity for the players to prepare for that tournament," he said.
