Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma ruled out of second Test against Bangladesh

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma will not be ready to take his place in the starting line-up for the second and final Test against Bangladesh, starting in Chattogram next Tuesday.

Bavuma sat out the victory in the first Test due to an elbow injury and head coach Shukri Conrad confirmed his skipper still needed more time to recover.

"We just feel medically he's not going to be ready for the second Test," Conrad said. "We will tone down the (rehabilitation) programme so that he can be ready for the Sri Lankan series (at home)."

Matthew Breetzke made his Test debut in the absence of Bavuma but was out for a duck in the first innings as the Proteas wrapped up a seven-wicket win in Mirpur.

Breetze looks set to retain his place in the XI unless the Proteas decide to bolster their bowling options and bring in all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy.

Dewald Brevis is also on tour as the replacement batter in the squad but Conrad made it known before their departure to Bangladesh that the Titans player was selected to learn with the future in mind.

The Proteas only need a draw in the second Test to wrap a series victory before starting a two-match series against Sri Lanka at home next month.
