Proteas squad for UK tour announced

The Proteas are set to embark on a tour of England and Ireland next month and the squads for the Test, One-Day and Twenty20 Internationals have been confirmed.

Notably, ODI and T20 captain Temba Bavuma will not be part of the tour after he was ruled out for a period of eight weeks after picking up an elbow injury during the recent T20 series in India.

The upcoming tour is scheduled for 19 July until 12 September and will be made up of three ODIs, three T20 internationals and three Test matches against England, as well as two T20Is will be played against Ireland in Bristol.

With Bavuma missing out, Keshav Maharaj is set to lead the ODI series while David Miller will skipper the five T20 matches. Kagiso Rabada will also sit out the ODIs as part of his load management, before returning for the T20 and Test matches.

32-year-old Rilee Rossouw has also been included in T20 squad for the first time since the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup in India, with an opportunity to add to his tally of 15 caps in the shorter format.

"This will be a very long tour for several members of the team who will participate in all three formats, and the entire coaching and support staff. On behalf of the Selection panel, I would like to wish Mark (Boucher), our two stand-in white ball captains, Keshav and David, and Test captain, Dean, all the very best for the tour," said CSA Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang.

"We anticipate exciting matches and nail-biting finishes against a strong opposing team that I know our Proteas enjoy facing off against."
