Proteas to open Champions Trophy campaign against Afghanistan in Karachi

The Proteas will start their Champions Trophy campaign on 21 February against Afghanistan in Karachi, Pakistan, after the ICC released the schedule for the tournament.

Temba Bavuma's charges will then take on Australia in Rawalpindi on 25 February before rounding off the group phase with a clash against England back in Karachi on 1 March.

The tournament will be hosted in Pakistan but all of India's matches will be played in Dubai.

Host nation Pakistan will open the global tournament with a match against New Zealand in Karachi on 19 February while India take on Bangladesh in Dubai the following day.

Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and New Zealand form Group A while the Proteas, Afghanistan, Australia and England are in Group B with the top sides advancing to the semifinals.

The last-four clashes will be played on 4, 5 March with the final scheduled for 9 March at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, unless India make the showpiece game then it will take place in Dubai.
