Rain dampens SA20 opener in Gqeberha

The opening match of the 2023 SA20 between the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings was unfortunately abandoned on Wednesday.

The highly anticipated season opener of season two of the franchise cricket tournament drew a substantial crowd to St. George's Park in Gqeberha despite the weather.

The Windy City experienced rain all day, but supporters hoping to watch the defending champion Sunrisers still streamed through the gates. The legendary brass band kept fans entertained - as did the Grammy Award-winning Zakes Bantwini - but the weather did not play ball.

Play was eventually called off without a ball being bowled and both teams were awarded two log points. Fans are also eligible for a full refund of the ticket price.

On Thursday, the Durban Super Kings are set to host MI Cape Town at Kingsmead.
