Hendricks, who had previously represented the Joburg Super Kings, will head to the Mother City in 2025 after an intense bidding war that included Pretoria Capitals.
The 35-year-old recently struck consecutive half-centuries for the Proteas in the T20I series against Ireland in Abu Dhabi and it was that hot form that seemed to make him a top attraction.
MI Cape Town, who has taken the wooden spoon in the first two seasons, further strengthened their batting depth after also capturing former Proteas international Colin Ingram (R175 000).
Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who are looking to claim the trophy for a third successive season, bolstered their fast bowling stocks with the signing of England international Richard Gleeson for R2.3 million.
The St Georges Park-based team also captured local paceman Okuhle Cele (R175 000) while Daniel Smith was included as the side's rookie pick.
Pretoria Capitals, under new coach Jonathan Trott. missed out on Hendricks but then compensated with the signing of West Indies big-hitter Evin Lewis for R1.5 million.
Durban's Super Giants also added some Caribbean flavour to the squad as they captured exciting Windies fast bowler Shamar Joseph for R425 000.
The third season of the competition kicks off on 9 January 2025 when defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, take on MI Cape Town at St George's Park in Gqeberha.
