SA20: Durban's Super Giants add Proteas legend Allan Donald to coaching staff

Former Proteas paceman Allan Donald has been confirmed as Durban's Super Giants' new bowling coach ahead of the third SA20 season.

Donald replaces Morne Morkel, who left his role take up the same position with the India national team under head coach Gautam Gambhir.

The 57-year-old Donald is an iconic figure in South African cricket having burst onto the scene when the country came back into the international fold in 1992.

Known in his playing days as 'White Lightning', Donald was the first Proteas bowler to claim 300 Test wickets and went on to play 72 Test matches and 164 ODIs.

At the Super Giants, he will link up with former national teammates Lance Klusener, who is the head coach, and Jonty Rhodes (fielding coach) while Sridharan Sriram will fill the Durban team's batting coach role.

Donald has had coaching roles with various teams around the world since he retired from playing in 2002, including the South Africa and New Zealand national sides.

He was also previously a bowling consultant with India Premier League (IPL) teams Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Pune Warriors.

The third season of the SA20 will kick off on 9 January until 8 February 2025 with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape having won the first two editions of the tournament.
