SA20: Sunrisers finally get off the mark after first victory of the season in Durban

The defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape finally recorded their first win in this season's SA20 after a 58-run victory over Durban's Super Giants at Kingsmead on Friday.

The Sunrisers came into the contest having lost their opening three encounters but posted a total of 165-5 after Aiden Markram had won the toss and opted to bat first on a pitch that assisted the slow bowlers.

The men in orange had Englishman Tom Abell to thank for getting them a winning score as the number three struck 57 from 39 balls that included five fours.

Abell shared a 48-run stand for the second wicket with countryman Zak Crawley (38) while there were important contributions down the order from Marco Jansen (36 not out from 26 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (15 not out off 8 balls).

Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmed once again showed his class for the home side as the left-arm tweaker returned figures of 4-25 in his four overs.

The Super Giants needed a good start with the bat in the run-chase and openers Matthew Breetzke and Bryce Parsons provided a solid foundation adding 40 in the powerplay.

The partnership was broken with a needless run-out as Parsons (23) were forced to walk back to the dressing room after an almighty mix-up with his partner.

Sunrisers' spinner Liam Dawson (2-18) then took the key wicket of Kane Williamson (3), the Englishman taking a good return catch to dismiss the New Zealand star.

The hosts then kept losing wickets at regular intervals with off-spinner Simon Harmer (1-24) getting Heinrich Klaasen (1) cheaply.

Quinton de Kock (21) and Wiaan Mulder (22) gave the home crowd a glimmer of hope of a win but both batters fell just as they looked to put the foot on the accelerator as the Super Giants were bowled out for a paltry 107.

It will not be long before the two teams meet each other again when they play in the reverse fixture at St George's Park on Sunday.
