The 32-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise following his displays in the inaugural SA20 with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape earlier this year and has since been awarded his first Cricket South Africa contract for the 2023/24 season as well as a late call-up to the 16th edition of the IPL.
"I'm very happy to be given an opportunity, especially playing out there. If anyone looks to specialise in white-ball cricket, I think that's the pinnacle, playing IPL," said Magala.
"Everyone wants to get into IPL, so I think it's a massive opportunity. I'm very nervous, to be honest with you."
He joins the four-time IPL champions as a replacement for New Zealand bowler Kyle Jamieson, but will miss their opening two clashes on Friday and Monday after he was called into this weekend's crucial World Cup Super League series against Netherlands.
Magala will then join India's flagship T20 showpiece, which runs until May 28, and the prospect of being away from home for two months is daunting for the Gqeberha-born star.
"I haven't been away from home for that long so, there's definitely going to be new learnings," he added.
"I've asked a couple of guys who've played there in IPL for many seasons, how would they cope and any advice on how to handle situations, and stuff like that.
"So, yes, I have been asking a lot of questions, but I'm very excited and nervous at the same time."
