Although still regarded as an all-rounder, Luus took a step back from bowling to focus more on her batting during the September tour of Pakistan.
She claims it has paid off in every series so far, including the one against New Zealand in October and the ongoing one against Bangladesh.
"I've been quite enjoying focussing just on batting. I think, if I look at the past two series we've played in Pakistan and New Zealand, I've had some good results," Luus said during a press conference.
"I finally got my first hundred, and a couple of fifties as well, so I'm very happy with [the decision], and I think it's just to continue focussing on batting and scoring as many runs as possible."
The 27-year-old, who bats at four, was unbeaten on 47 in the recent eight-wicket triumph over Bangladesh in Potchefstroom, says her goal is to ensure she’s someone who can rescue the team’s innings when needed.
"I think I can focus more on it and put some extra time into it, and I think the team always needs a batter who can bat long and put up their hand and score big hundreds and big fifties," she added.
"So I think that's what I'm trying to do and just being that consistent player in the batting line-up."
In addition to quitting bowling, Luus resigned as captain for the same reason in August. However, that it is not a position she can entirely discard, despite seeing how beneficial not having that responsibility has been.
"You never step away from a leadership role, I think I'm a senior player in the team and, with Laura [Wolvaardt] being a young captain, I think there's quite a lot of discussions happening on the field between me and her," she added.
"So I think that leadership will always be in me, you never step away from it completely, but I feel like, maybe just beforehand, not having to think about 10 other players is really relaxing and I can just focus on my own game."
