The SA Emerging Women's team – one level below the Proteas Women – are set to kick off their Group A campaign against Namibia in the capital city on Thursday, with the match scheduled to begin at 11:00am, before facing Nigeria and Tanzania to complete the pool stage.
Shangase speaking after a recent training session, expressed optimism ahead of their opening fixture, in which they are undoubtedly considered the favourites.
"Firstly, the team spirit is high coming off a productive training session. We’re eagerly anticipating the tournament ahead, and our singular focus is to clinch the gold medal," Shangase told SABC Sport.
"Leading the team at such a prestigious event is a privilege. I’ll bring my best to the table, bolstered by the unwavering support of my teammates.
"The excitement among us is palpable as we approach the competition's start, particularly with the inclusion of some talented young players. We’re all itching to kick off, wishing the action could start today rather than waiting until Thursday."
The young ladies are growing in stature and Shandase, who also captains the Hollywoodbest Dolphins, believes they have the makings of a continental championship-winning side.
"We’ve witnessed significant strides in our training, and each member is eager to contribute. Confidence within the team is at an all-time high, a level I’ve rarely seen before," she added.
"While I’ve led the team in previous series, the expectations from our supporters are immense and I’m committed to inspiring and motivating the players to meet those expectations.
"We’re a tight-knit group, and I firmly believe in our collective ability to clinch the gold medal."
