Tony de Zorzi gets SA20 gig after being signed by Durban's Super Giants

Proteas batter Tony de Zorzi will take part in this season's SA20 after being picked up by Durban's Super Giants as an injury replacement for Kyle Abbott.

Seam bowler Abbott was ruled out of the tournament due to injury with the Super Giants opting to add another batter to their squad.

De Zorzi made his Test and ODI debuts for the Proteas this year and recently hit his maiden international century to help his country beat India in the 50-over format.

The left-handed batter will add to an already explosive Super Giants line-up that includes Proteas teammates Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen and West Indies star Nicholas Pooran.

The Super Giants, who narrowly missed out on reaching the playoffs in the inaugural season of SA20, had previously announced that Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj will replace De Kock as captain of the franchise.

Maharaj and his team will open their campaign on 11 January 2024 when they host MI Cape Town at Kingsmead.
