Bravo was key to the Windies winning the T20 World Cup in both 2012 and 2016 before ending an international career comprising of 40 Tests, 164 ODIs and 91 T20s three years ago.
He has been a regular on the T20 franchise circuit and is the format's leading wicket-taker with 631, while he has won titles in the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League and Pakistan Super League.
The 40-year-old had planned to bow out after the end of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) but a groin injury sustained earlier this week has brought forward his retirement plans.
"My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain," he said in a statement on Instagram.
"I can't put myself in a position where I might let down my teammates, my fans, or the teams I represent.
"So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell."
Bravo has already started his transition into coaching in the past 12 months, working with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and Afghanistan for the men's T20 World Cup in June.
