Chiefs, Pirates enquire over Mayele

Tanzanian Premier Soccer league top goal scorer and Young Africans striker Fiston Mayele has been the subject of interest from Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in this transfer window, SABC Sport has learnt.

Mayele, who is only just completing his first season with Yanga and helped them to their first league title in four years, has enjoyed a season to remember.

'Yanga' last week wrapped up the league title race with three games to spare and currently hold an unassailable 13-point lead over rivals Simba with two games still to play, with the 27-year-old having played an instrumental role in their historic success.

Club CEO Senzo Mbatha says the Democratic Republic of Congo international, who has scored 16 goals in the league this season, is hot property at the moment and, though remaining coy over the clubs' names, confirms interest from 'big' South African clubs.

"For sure, there have been phone calls - you know, I've got colleagues all over Africa, I've received three phone calls from South Africa, big clubs showing some interest," Mbatha told SABC Sport from his base in Dar es Salaam.

"Though the interest has not been expressed in writing or anything like that, the enquiries have been there and I've been quite frank to say that he's not available, he has a contract with us and we want to do well in the interclub competition [CAF Champions League].

"One thing you cannot run away from when you have one or two, or three, of your players doing well, you'll have people showing interest because they think that maybe they have a much better spending power than you, so they can convince you otherwise."
