Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has explained the decision to rope in South African coach Benni McCarthy into his technical team at Old Trafford.
McCarthy's appointment as one of three coaches at Man United was confirmed by the club on Saturday evening, sending South African football lovers into delirium all over social media.
However, the move wasn't as well received by local and other international supporters not familiar with the all-time leading Bafana Bafana goal scorer, who questioned what he will bring to the likes of international superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ten Hag has addressed what exactly led to the 44-year-old former AmaZulu and Cape Town City mentor's appointment and what he will bring to the first team coaching staff, which also consists of Eric Ramsay and Darren Fletcher.
"There was still one place in our coaching staff that I wanted to fill - someone with a different voice and Benni is that one," Ten Hag told Manchester United TV (MUTV).
"He has experience as a manager. He was a coach in the professional level and he is a former striker, a really successful striker as well. He will focus on the positioning and attacking [aspects].
"I'm not saying only the strikers, but also the integration from the full-backs and midfielders. Our way of play has to be dynamic."
