No room for error at Kaizer Chiefs - Brandon Peterson

Speaking to the media at the club’s base in Naturena on Thursday, Petersen has reflected on his promising period since reclaiming the number one jersey in the last three matches.

In three consecutive outings, Chiefs have kept three consecutive clean sheets – this on the back of the club’s worst-ever spell of three consecutive losses prior.

"Well, it's been a while. I've been waiting [to return to the line-up], and I think the important part was to make sure that I'm ready when given the opportunity," said the 28-year-old.

"I think we've been training well, especially as goalkeepers, we've been working hard and I"m sure, if you give anyone else a chance now, they will pull out the same performances – that's just the way we prepare ourselves.

"But, I mean, it's been good. I'm feeling good, I'm feeling confident. I mean, three clean sheets are always a bonus for us as goalkeepers, because you know we like our sheets clean. So, ja, it's been good and I'm looking forward to keep going."

The Chiefs goalkeeping department has been full of competition this season, with captain Itumeleng Khune having played 11 matches – keeping only two clean sheets and conceding 12 goals, while Bruce Bvuma has conceded seven goals in four games and kept one clean sheet.

Peterson has featured in nine games, conceding only four goals, and keeping seven clean sheets, and accredits this to the healthy competition at Naturena.

"No, it's good, we have healthy competition – it's been that way ever since I've been here, and I think that's helped us a lot because we help each other grow," he added.

"Where you see one is lacking, you try and lift him up and try and help him improve, because at the end of the day, whoever the coach picks, it's important for us to support one another because your chance might come and you would want the support.

"So, the support has been great and we're brothers on the field, and we have healthy competition, so it's been good."
