Pirates in deadline day talks with Chippa
Orlando Pirates are believed to be in talks with Chippa United over the transfer of goalkeeper Sipho Chaine before the midnight deadline.
The Premier Soccer League registration window closes on Thursday and its expected there could be some last-minute deals between clubs, with the Buccaneers thought to be in negotiations with the Chilli Boys.
SABC Sport has learnt that if the move does go through, it would then be a cash transfer with Chaine added as cover to first-choice goalie Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane.
Though Pirates also have young Kopano Thuntsane on their books, the club is understood to be looking for experience for the remaining games of the 2022/23 season under head coach Jose Riveiro.
Chaine, 25, fits the criteria and was at one point the preferred choice at Bloemfontein Celtic before the club was sold, relocated and renamed Royal AM.
He joined Chippa in July from the KwaZulu-Natal outfit and featured in two fixtures under former coach Daine Klate, but could very well be on the verge of moving to the Soweto giants tonight.
A player is permitted to play for two clubs in one season as per FIFA rules, so Chaine can join Pirates before the window closes and still feature for his new club in the current season.
