Referees not learning from mistakes – Thabo September

Chippa United coach Thabo September feels match officials in the PSL are regressing and not improving from their errors.

The Chilli Boys mentor was reacting following their narrow 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United at the Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

September and his technical team were visibly unhappy with referee Mokhele Thulo throughout the Betway Premiership encounter.

According to the Chippa mentor, the man in the middle made a few wrong calls.

"I don't know what is punishment for talking about referees, I'll stick to this, I'm still new to this coaching thing but the worst thing is when you make a mistake and you don't acknowledge the mistake but sometimes, I make mistakes, I need to see the mistake so that I don't repeat them,” September said.

“I think that's what disappointing when a referee doesn't want to acknowledge and communicate. Mistakes will always happen, maybe sometimes it's deliberate and sometimes not but just acknowledge and don't force things as if you did something right.

“It was a tough game and yes, some decisions we feel may not be right but we feel some decisions should have gone our way but at the end of the day, it is the middle man."

This week, Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie reiterated his push for VAR to be implemented in South Africa before the end of the season.

September has his views on the technology.

"It will be crucial I think it's working all around the world where they are using it. It does help but then at the end of the day, the final decision still lies with a human being but at least it will minimise the crucial decisions in the box and red cards and stuff but it will help us definitely to improve football," he added.
