Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane says Man United can challenge for trophies next season under Erik ten Hag despite having experienced another disappointing season.
Varane has been with United since August 2021 along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, and they had finished the previous season in the second place in the league table and reached the final of the Europa League. However after that promising start to the campaign the Premier league giants ran aground and interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been struggling to turn things into their favour.
The red devils revealed last month that Ten Hag will become the latest man to help the 13-time Premier League champions rediscover their glory days and Varane is confident next season will be better.
"I'm always positive and I think with a good pre-season, with good work, we can prepare well for next season and be ready to fight for every trophy," said Varane. "That's the ambition of this club."
United last lifted up the trophy in 2017 when winning the Europa League final against Ajax.
The 29-year-old defender told the PA news agency this has been a "frustrating season" but said the club could bounce back strongly; all they need is to be more consistent.
"I think we have good players, players with experience," he said when asked about his fellow centre-backs.I think it's not just about the defence but the whole team. I think we can improve, we can defend better.
"We can be more in control during games. Sometimes we're able to play very well for 20 to 30 minutes and then play bad 10 or 15 minutes. We lost a lot of points like this."Varane concluded
