Aldrich Potgieter chasing debut Nedbank Golf Challenge win

South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter dominated with a three-shot lead into Sunday’s final round of the DP World Tour’s Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City.

Potgieter managed an impressive round of 66, taking him to seven-under ahead of England’s Matthew Jordan, Italian Francesco Laporta and six-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa of the USA.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Potgieter said it would be special to win the tournament in front of his home crowd.

"That would be a dream come true, playing in front of a home crowd – I've never played a round like this in front of a big crowd before, and it's been huge," said Potgieter.

"I've been in this position a few times with a few people watching, but especially at home, it's very, very good."

The 20-year-old, who got a special invitation from legend Gary Player to partake in the tournament, unpacked the turning point between his performances on the first two days through Saturday.

"Yeah, I made quite a switch on the second day and it felt like I was leaving a lot of putts short with the mallet, so I decided to go with the blade," he added.

"I was holding both pretty good, but I putted with the mallet in Australia and I just thought, why not just keep going [with it], and I made the switch so finally got a few balls more towards the hole and they ended up going in."
